Dirt Sheet Daily Audio – 07/07/16

Our recap of the Thursday’s wrestling news features a look at speculation and reporting leading up to WWE’s official confirmation and announcement of the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton match at SummerSlam on August 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez speculate as to why the announcement wasn’t made, or included, on SmackDown when the show aired Wednesday night in Canada, while Alvarez and his former co-host, Todd Martin, now with PW Torch, ask the same question about whether Lesnar wrestling Orton is a good idea!

Meltzer doesn’t even want to think about it until Lesnar’s fight Saturday night at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt.

Cody Rhodes was the guest on the first episode of Ric Flair’s new podcast, wherein Flair’s co-host Conrad Thompson asked Rhodes to address the so-called Excursion Theory, which contends his WWE departure is all a work to distance the wrestler from his Stardust gimmick. Hear what Cody had to say.

We look at TNA ratings news, and the move of Impact wrestling to Thursday nights on POP TV starting on July 21.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson interviewed POP TV President Brad Schwartz and TNA President Dixie Carter on Thursday to get their takes on relationship between the promotion and the network, and what the two of them have to say about the show’s move.

Dave Meltzer offers his thoughts on the Final Deletion segment, and Bruce Mitchell finally joins twitter.

Dirt Sheet Daily Audio – 07/06/16

Les Moore recaps the day’s news, including the Twitter debate between the MLW Twitter and Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin about whether or not ROH wrestler Moose had signed a deal with TNA. MLW originally reported he had, before finally retracting the update to say Moose had confirmed an offer had been received, but that he hadn’t signed.

Dave Meltzer clarifies why the perceived risk on Moose accepting a high dollar offer from a company perpetually reported to be going out of business isn’t as large as it may seem on the surface…

Les looks at the varying coverage of Raw ratings from Monday night among paid pundits, Dave Meltzer, Jason Powell, Wade Keller and James Caldwell, which range everywhere from shockingly low to better than expected to right where we thought they’d be…

We also look at the difference in ratings, and their respective slides, between 2016 and the last time Raw aired on the 4th of July in 2011.

Finally, we look at the reactions to Final Deletion from TNA Impact Wrestling Tuesday night, including Powell’s take, Sean Radican’s reaction, and Bryan Alvarez plays Inspector Ringside with TNA’s own Jeremy Borash on whether WWE was inspired by the Final Deletions segment in the current Wyatt Family vs New Day angle.

Dirt Sheet Daily Audio – 07/05/16

Voices of Wrestling’s TNA Impact reviewer Garrett Kidney joins Les Moore to talk the Final Deletion conflict between Broken Matt Hardy and “Brother Nero” Jeff Hardy from Tuesday night.

Les looks at Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer speculating that TNA influenced WWE creative in their booking of the Wyatts/New Day segment from Monday night wherein the Wyatts challenged the New Day to a battle at their compound.

Brock Lesnar’s opponent is set to be named this Thursday on SmackDown, and Dave Meltzer and PWInsider’s Mike Johnson have helped fuel speculation that the opponent will be Randy Orton, who is set to return within the next few weeks from injury. Orton has been out of action since December.

James Caldwell has a look at who oddsmakers say may be Lesnar’s opponent at SummerSlam, while Dave Meltzer wonders why WWE would even name an opponent yet at all, since Lesnar could be injured severely enough to miss the show when he faces off against Mark Hunt in the UFC Octagon this weekend. Meltzer goes on to say that he thinks maybe Vince McMahon as swerved into thinking Hunt wouldn’t be much competition to Lesnar.

Meltzer has a take on the interesting political move of having Enzo and Cass as John Cena’s partners at Battleground against AJ Styles and the Club rather than the Usos.

MLW Radio received a facelift Tuesday in prep for the debut of Ric Flair’s relaunched podcast on their network, set for Wednesday with Cody Rhodes as the first guest.

MSL lets listeners know that all of the shows on the MLW network will soon be receiving their own podcast feeds as well.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported Tuesday that ROH star Moose was fielding offers from several different groups including TNA and AAA in Mexico.

Now, here’s some wrestling news:

** Wrestling Observer Live host Bryan Alvarez claimed Sunday on his radio show that Stephanie McMahon would likely “browbeat” a random WWE Superstar in response to Brock Lesnar recently saying he didn’t care what she had to say in her recent interview with Business Insider.

** Alvarez expects this week’s holiday edition of WWE Raw to be the lowest rated episode in the show’s history, but that it likely doesn’t matter because it’s a holiday and everything will be changing during the upcoming draft and WWE roster split anyway.

** On the subject of the upcoming draft and subsequent roster split, a certain level of skepticism if not outright cynicism, is winning out among paid pundits and former writers.

** This past Thursday Wade Keller interviewed former WWE writer and current blogger Kevin Eck on the PW Torch LiveCast, where Eck downplayed how much the SmackDown and Raw shows would differ, citing Vince McMahon’s firm belief that the overall WWE brand should be a variety show.

** The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer expressed concern on Wrestling Observer Radio that the roster split will lack the depth required for long term success after speaking with people over the weekend.

** PWInsider and many other wrestling news sites are reporting that ex-SmackDown General Manager Vicki Guerrero will be appearing on WWE Raw tonight.

** WWE Hall of Famer Jerry the King Lawler is expected to be back this week in his role on SmackDown now that his suspension has been lifted.

** Twitter recently deleted the fake accounts claiming to be former WWE manager Bobby the Brain Heenan and his wife Cynthia.

** Ex-WWE Diva and Hall of Famer Tammy Synch has re-engaged her fans on Twitter recently after leaving a 3-month stint in rehab.

** Longtime F4W Online supporter and unofficial Director of Events at for that site, Edward Loredo, better known as Ed in San Antonio, announced Sunday that he is now the women’s wrestling correspondent for HalfGuarded.com.

Loredo’s blames site editor Josh Nason for passing on parts 2 through 4 of his 4-part SHIMMER Road Report.

Nason told Sheet Sandwich that he passed on the columns for ”…several reasons, including reads, writing style and dates of the show…”

Half Guarded was created by former F4W Contributor Michael Coughlin.
